Special Lenten Studies
Paxton Presbyterian Church, 3500 Sharon Street, Harrisburg, announces its Annual Lenten Series for 2009. Beginning on Sunday, March 1, and continuing through Sunday, March 29, at 9 a.m., artist, author and guest lecturer, Elaine L. Wilson, will present a view of the Season of Lent through Art.
Each week Elaine will be taking us through five interpretations of major events in the life of Christ.
- Week One: The Last Supper, utilizing a hallmark artistic creation by Leonardo DaVinci entitled "The Last Supper."
- Week Two: Utilizing the work of Salvador Dali in his "Christ of St. John of the Cross," Elaine will give a brief history of the cross and its symbolism for all mankind, its significance in daily living and how it is an example for living in balance in today's world.
- Week Three: "The Eucharist of the Last Supper" by Salvador Dali is a fascinating study of one of America's greatest contemporary artists. Dali is recognized as being one of the greatest 20th century religious artists. Come and learn about one of his most outstanding works and what its meaning holds for you.
- Week four: Join us as we take a look at an articulate, generous, and courageous woman who walked with Christ and was known as "The Apostle to the Apostles." Mary Magdalene is the focus when Elaine takes us through an analysis of "The Penitent Magdalene" by Georges La Tour.
- Our final week, Sunday, March 29, will focus on the Resurrection, the greatest event in the history of Christianity. Elaine will present "Noli Me Tangere," a painting by the artistic giant Titian.
