Presbyterian Women’s Association
The Paxton Presbyterian Women’s Association welcomes all women of the church who wish to participate in circles, evening meetings, fellowship times, mission, and outreach. We seek the membership of all ages, so that we may reflect the perspective of the whole church. We hope that all may be nurtured and encouraged by the fellowship with other women.
- Circle 2 meets on the first Tuesday of each month in the Christian Focus room at 12:30 PM for a lesson. A hostess provides lunch.
- "The Unity Circle" meets for devotion and fellowship. A volunteer gives the lesson. We have an annual picnic in June. We meet the 2nd Tuesday at 12:30 PM in Room 201. Each person brings a packed lunch, and the hostess provides beverages and dessert.
- Circle 5 shares devotions and discusses spiritual issues in our own lives. Events include an annual retreat and family get-togethers. Circle 5 meets the second Friday morning of each month.
- TotMoms is our newest circle for mothers with young children. We meet at the church, then proceed to a restaurant for food and fellowship for a "Mom's Night Out." Babysitting is provided. Meeting dates vary, but are usually monthly. The leader is Camille Fritz, and she communicates meeting times with the group. RSVP is requested one week ahead of each night out, contact Camille at 991-3195 to reserve babysitting for the night.
- Evensong meets to do various projects for the church. We meet on the second Tuesday of each month in the lounge at 6:30 PM. The hostess provides a snack.
- The sewing group meets on Wednesdays to sew for all kinds of needs in the local and world community. Our specialty is the large Humble Quilt, a warm, waterproof knotted comforter given to Harrisburg’s homeless people. To date we have made 300 such quilts. We are a circle of the Paxton Women’s Association. Events include the periodic display and blessing of special projects. Take-home sewing project kits are offered twice a year to the congregation. Night owl sewing sessions are offered periodically for children and adults who cannot come during our regular meeting times. Humble quilts are made during these sessions. We meet every Wednesday from 9:30 to 11:30 AM, June to August.
Along with all these dedicated circles, the PW women dedicate much of their time and talent to mission works. Some of these are Santa Shop for underprivileged children in our community, change collections for the YWCA shelter, making Mother's Day cards for our soldiers to send to loved ones, Bibles for Bethesda Mission for Women, and goods and funds to the Silence of Mary House.
In addition to mission and outreach activities, we spend time in fellowship provided by the Activities Committee. We have traveled to theater productions and made a trip to the Hershey Butterfly House and Gardens.
